More than 90,000 breast lifts are performed every year in the United States. Also called mastopexy, this surgery is designed to raise the breasts, addressing sagginess and giving them a more youthful appearance.
Women opt for breast lifts in Nashville to improve the look of their breasts, stop rashes from developing where the skin meets and to make it easier to buy bras and other clothes. It is common for the procedure to be combined with breast reduction and breast augmentation.

Is a Breast Lift Right for You?
Strong candidates for a breast lift are those whose breasts sag or appear deflated. Ideally, the client will be finished with having children and no longer be breastfeeding, as both can alter the results of a breast lift. Concerns about things like nipples pointing downward, having nipples below the breast crease and large areolas can also be corrected with a breast lift.
Some reasons women seek out breast lifts include:
- Wanting to look better in low-cut tops and bathing suits
- Having uneven breasts
- Disliking the point or position of the nipples
- Struggling with chaffing and irritation where the skin touches
- Dealing with back and neck discomfort
- Seeking a more youthful appearance

Types of Breast Lifts
Breast lifts are not one-size-fits-all. Dr. Davis will customize his approach based on your unique needs and the results you have in mind. There are four breast lift techniques that can be used.
Crescent Breast Lift
Ideal for addressing minimum sagging, this technique uses a single incision running along the top outer edge of the areola. The scar is easily hidden and the results are subtle.
Peri-Areolar Breast Lift
Designed to provide a subtle lift, this technique — also called a donut lift — uses a circular incision around the entire edge of the areola. The scar blends into the areola, allowing it to be well hidden.
Vertical Breast Lift
When there is moderate sagging and a desire to reshape the breast, a vertical breast lift could be best. It combines a circular incision around the areola with a vertical incision between the bottom of the areola and the breast crease.
Anchor Breast Lift
For significant sagging and a dramatic change in breast shape, the anchor breast lift is best. Three incisions are used: one around the areola, one from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease and one running along the length of the breast crease.
During Your Breast Lift Surgery
Your breast lift surgery will be conducted at The Atrium, a specialty operating facility at Centennial Hospital. The procedure takes about two hours and is done under general anesthesia. Most clients will return home the same day as the procedure. You will need to have someone else drive you home.
Breast Lift Recovery
The recovery period will look different for each patient. However, you should anticipate swelling and bruising, as well as general discomfort. You will need to take a week off from work and other activities so that you can rest and heal. A special bra will be worn to support the breast and encourage the best possible results.
After the first week, you can resume light activity, returning to your usual routine within about 6 weeks. Keep in mind that your healing process may take more or less time than others. Always listen to your body and attend your follow-up appointments with Dr. Davis.
Breast Lift Results
There may be a noticeable change in your breasts directly after surgery. However, this is not the final result. Swelling needs to go down first, which can take 6 months to go away fully. If you are ever worried about how you are healing, do not hesitate to call the office. Chances are what concerns you is perfectly normal, but we are always here for you.
Take the Next Step
If you are unhappy with the sagginess of your breasts or how your nipples are situated, now is the perfect time to take the next step. Contact us to schedule your consultation.
Breast Lift FAQs
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the average cost of a breast lift is roughly $5,000. This does not take into account other costs, such as anesthesia and facility fees. If the price of surgery is a concern, ask about our financing options.
In Nashville, breast lifts are offered by many board-certified plastic surgeons. As such, the hard part isn’t finding a doctor, but determining who is right for you. Schedule multiple consultations and select the doctor who makes you feel most comfortable and crafts the treatment plan that most closely aligns with your goals.
Some things we ask all clients to do before surgery are:
- Quit smoking at least 4 weeks before surgery
- Switch to a healthier diet to promote healing
- Avoid all blood-thinning medications
- Begin fasting 8 hours before surgery
Keep in mind that this is not a comprehensive list. We will explain everything you need to do when we schedule your procedure.
