As you age, so does your skin. However, the skin on your face is thinner, more sensitive and more likely to be exposed to the elements than that on the rest of your body. From sun exposure to genetics, there is a lot that can impact the texture and elasticity of your skin. Microneedling is a nonsurgical treatment option that can help fight the sands of time.
Microneedling works by stimulating the natural collagen production in the area targeted. It can also be used to let topical solutions penetrate deeper into the layers of your skin. This results in improved elasticity and greater support under the skin, which can help address fine lines and wrinkles.
When combined with other agents, it could help treat acne, scarring and discoloration. For many clients, microneedling is an excellent option when they want to avoid or are not ready for plastic surgery.

Is Microneedling Right for You?
Microneedling is one of the most universal forms of skin treatment. It is suited to people of all ages, skin tones and skin types. Even if you have sensitive skin, microneedling can work for you. Prime candidates are those with acne, scarring, discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles.
Some reasons to consider getting a microneedling procedure include:
- Wanting to increase the effectiveness of topical agents
- A desire to treat active acne more effectively
- Having scarring on your face that you wish to eliminate
- Looking to eliminate premature signs of aging and reduce poor size
During Your Microneedling Procedure
Expect your microneedling appointment to take roughly an hour. A topical numbing solution will be applied to the area being treated. Once numbness has set in, our licensed nurse practitioner will glide the handheld device called the Collagen P.I.N. (percutaneous induction needling) which uses very fine, sterile needles to pierce the top layer of your skin.
This process creates controlled micro-injuries to the skin, which triggers the body’s natural healing processes, including the production of collagen and elastin. These micro-injuries also make it easier for topical creams and serums to penetrate the skin.
Microneedling Recovery
Recovery from microneedling is fairly quick, and many patients do not feel the need to take any time off from work or school. Minor irritation and inflammation may be present for the first few days following treatment. Sloughing may occur for up to a week after the procedure, so it’s important to keep your skin moisturized as it continues to heal
Heavy creams and makeup should be avoided for a week after treatment as they can get too deep into the skin and cause blemishes and other problems. Do not exfoliate or use any skin products that are alcohol-based for at least seven days. If you are unsure about what products to use, ask us for recommendations.
Microneedling Results
Individual results will vary, and for some, it may take several treatments spaced 6 weeks apart before dramatic results are clear. Others will see a noticeable difference with a single session. In general, no results will be visible for several weeks, as it takes the body time to produce the collagen and elastin needed. To maintain the results of your treatment, quality skincare is critical.

Microneedling FAQs
The cost of microneedling varies based on the surface being treated, if there is a topical treatment being used as well and if you want to add other non-surgical treatments. If you have concerns about making microneedling work for your budget, ask us about our financing options.
The most important thing is to make sure that the provider has the proper qualifications and experience to administer the microneedling treatment. Because it is a relatively new procedure, many practices that offer it are not highly experienced. Do not be afraid to ask questions or to request before and after photos before scheduling treatment.
We suggest you do the following:
- Sit down with your provider to discuss your goals and what realistic expectations are
- Avoid exfoliating or other harsh treatment for a week before your session
- Drink lots of water to make healing easier
- Stop smoking for four weeks before your session
- Stop using medications that thin the blood for at least a week
