Breast Reduction in Nashville, TN

Reduce The Size of Your Breast

Breast reduction surgery, also called reduction mammaplasty, is an increasingly common plastic surgery procedure. More than 90,000 of them are performed in the U.S. every year. The goal of breast reduction surgery in Nashville is to make the breasts smaller and, in many cases, more symmetrical.

Women seek breast reduction for many reasons, from physical pain and discomfort caused by large breasts to wanting less attention focused on their chest. This procedure is often combined with others, such as a breast lift, to address other aesthetic concerns like breast sagging.

During Your Breast Reduction Surgery

Dr. Davis will conduct your procedure at The Atrium, a specialty operating facility at Centennial Hospital. General anesthesia is used during breast reduction surgery. Dr. Davis will reduce, reshape and lift the breasts based on the surgery plan you create together. The nipples may also be repositioned and the areolas reduced if desired.

Breast Reduciton Recovery

After surgery, you will wear special garments to help speed up recovery. There will also be tape, bandages and drains used to help you heal. Most clients return home the same day as their procedure.
Plan on being home and resting for a week after surgery. You will need to have someone drive you home as well as help during the early parts of your recovery period. After the drains are removed, you will be able to shower again. The specialty bra will need to be worn full time except when showering for the first 2 weeks. After that, it needs to be worn for another 4 weeks during waking hours.
All non-essential physical activity should be avoided for 2 weeks. Light exercise can resume at that point — things like walking that do not place strain on the surgical site. Most clients are able to resume their usual activities in about 6 weeks, but this varies based on individual healing times.

Breast Reduction Results

There may be a noticeable change right after surgery. However, this does not mean you will see your final results right away. Swelling and bruising will take time to subside. Most clients are able to buy new bras about 3 months out from surgery, though subtle changes may continue for up to a year.

Types of Breast Reduction

There are several types of breast reduction techniques Dr. Davis can use. Which one is selected will depend on your needs and preferences. Factors that can influence the type of breast reduction used are breast anatomy, how much tissue needs to be removed and if other procedures will be combined with the reduction.

Liposuction for Breast ReductionSometimes, liposuction alone is sufficient for breast reduction. This is the least invasive method of reduction and it leaves little in the way of scars. This is best for clients seeking a moderate reduction who have good skin elasticity and no sagging or asymmetry to correct.

Lollipop Breast ReductionAlso called a vertical breast reduction, this technique offers moderate reduction while also addressing noticeable sagging. Two incisions are made: one around the edge of the areola and the second running from the bottom of the areola to the crease beneath the breast. Dr. Davis can use this to remove excess fat, skin and breast tissue while internally reshaping the breast and lifting it into a more youthful position.

Anchor Breast ReductionAlso called the inverted-T, there are three incisions made during this type of breast reduction: one that runs around the edge of the areola, one that runs between the bottom of the areola and the breast crease and one that follows the breast crease. This is used when a significant reduction is needed, or there is a lot of sagging or asymmetry to address.
